In the Briggs

What's going on here, you ask? Good question. The answer requires a bit of background, but it's worth it. Ingrid had listed her car for sale on Autotrader and a person who claimed to be a crew member of the C.S.I. television show, Danny Briggs, contacted her about using her car in one of the episodes. He was willing to pay $500 for use of the car for one day, without putting a single mile on it. Ingrid was obviously suspicious about theft and when she told me about the idea, I immediately suspected a scam. But as suspicious as we were, we rationalized that it would be too much trouble for a scam artist to go through to get his hands on an old car. After getting various reassurances about the deal, we agreed to meet with Briggs and allow him to pick up the car... and this is the guy who shows up, ready to load the car onto his flatbed. Great.



Before releasing Ingrid's car to him, we asked for identification. Upon inspection, I said, "Hey, I thought your name was Danny Briggs, not Daniel Baron. What gives?" His response was, "The Briggs is off to the right there, just below my name. You know how the DMV does things... They can never put your name in the right place." Hmmmm.... No, I don't know how the DMV messes things up because it's never happened to me before. Very fishy. And that NBC Universal badge could've been made anywhere. Despite the strangeness, we agreed to turn over the car and in exchange, we got a copy of the script for the CSI episode. What really gave us comfort is that as he loaded the car onto his flatbed Briggs yelled out, "Fooled 'em again!!" Very funny, Briggs. The car was to be used for a very short scene where one of the actresses would exit the car, walk away and turn on the alarm. That's it. $500 for that. Did we actually get $500 for that?



You betcha! And we also got our car back in one piece. Nice work, Ingrid.
