Superboppin' Superbowl

IMG_0656

It all went down on Superbowl Sunday when we gathered at my folks' house for our annual Superbowl party. In addition to the battle between the Patriots and the Giants, there were several other battles that would take place that day.

As always, my mom went overboard with the food, which included, among other things, ribs, tacos, deviled eggs, dip, chicken salad, popcorn, sushi, nuts and cake.

And for the grill, we had some giant shrimp...

... and hot links and hot dogs. Good thing Frosty was there to help us grill, and more importantly, to help us eat the tons of food.

Hutch wasted no time helping himself to the ribs mom ordered from a local joint. Get a plate, fool!

This year, the outcome of the Superbowl wasn't the only surprise that happened at our party. Darren took the opportunity to introduce us to his infinitely better half, Christine. It's clear from this picture that they haven't been dating long because she looks way too happy standing there next to Darren. Obviously, love is blind.

Before the game started we did our usual grid betting, and I had high hopes of winning the $250 grand prize for the final score. Now that I think about it, a more interesting wager would be to bet on whether we'll see Christine at next year's Superbowl party. Hmmmm... I have my money on "Yes"!

IMG_0663

As we settled in for kickoff, we ate, drank and chatted. After a largely defensive first half, Helen ended up taking the first quarter prize, and newbie Christine nabbed the prize at halftime. Now that's no way to go and make new friends, Christine. Give me the prize money. Now. Seriously.

Frosty brought over a pair of Fun Bops, which are these air-filled "boppers" and at halftime we opted for our own form of entertainment rather than watching the lame halftime show with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Speaking of which, it's a good thing Christine had to leave to the airport before Darren began battling because I think she might have been heartbroken to see what transpired.

Match #1: Darren v. Frosty

The first battle of the day began in spectacular fashion, with both Frosty and Darren coming out of their corners swinging and landing solid shots. I could tell then, that these boppers were going to be fun.

Here's a short clip of the battle between the two. Frosty may be a big guy but he was quite an active bopper, preoccupying Darren with meaningless blows... (something Darren is very familiar with).

In this second video, you can see Frosty's parrying prowess, as well as how all those sausages he consumed earlier were slowing him down. Before I started recording, I told them they 10 seconds left... or something like that.

IMG_0657

It was a very close match with each side having his moments, but in the end I think Frosty emerged victorious despite being on the retreat for a large part of the match. Good job, Frosty.

Match #2: Me v. Frosty

Of course, after Frosty regained his breath, I couldn't resist challenging the winner of the first match.

In this first clip of our battle, it's clear that Frosty was initially overwhelmed by my height and had no choice but to retreat to escape my relentless attack... Looks like he pulled the old "my glove came off" excuse to delay the match.

But as you can see here, there's no reason that the fight (or Frosty's retreat) had to stop.

Toward the end of our battle, Frosty landed the cleanest shot of the match and then immediately resumed his retreat. See him hit me with a nice right hook and then run for cover in this video.

IMG_0672

Nice shot, Frosy, but you're gonna pay for that! You just wait until next year, my friend!

IMG_0669

Match #3: Pandy v. Glady

After Frosty and I duked it out, it came time for the third and final match of our awesome halftime show, and it was none other than Pandy and Glady who stepped up to the plate to challenge one another.

The battle between the two was, to put it nicely, highly unorthodox. Watch this video of the entire match which lasted all of one minute and you'll see what I mean. Lots of posturing, a little humping, some ass grabbing, and tons of mounting.

IMG_0651

Sadly, after Match #3, the halftime show came to an end as we all focused our attention back on the Superbowl. But before getting back into it, we took the opportunity to present the winner of the F5 Fantasy Football league with his prize money and the league trophy. Glady won the league championship two seasons ago and was responsible for getting a trophy with a portion of his winnings. This pathetic excuse for a trophy is what he showed up to the party with. Booooo...

IMG_0673

The one good thing about the trophy was that it was in the form of a cup, so we had to fill it up with something before presenting it to the winner for this year. What should we fill it up with? Hey, that's a great idea, mom!

IMG_0682

Congratulations on your victory, Hutch. Now please get rid of this crappy trophy and get something more substantial with your prize money.

IMG_0679

Ingrid and Darren had yet to exchange Christmas gifts, so Darren presented Ingrid with her very own Slanket, which is essentially a super cozy blanket with sleeves. I'm glad that Christine (who missed her flight) came back to the party to witness how nicely Darren wrapped the gift in a giant white plastic bag. But really, Darren, it's a wonderful gift. I've stolen it from Ingrid and use it every night. Thanks!

IMG_0685

Hutch and Helen also had a flight scheduled later that night to return to the Bay. But before leaving, Helen claimed the grand prize money for the final score. To make matters worse, the third quarter prize went to Christine, meaning that all the prize money went to girls. That's it. I've decided that there will be no more girls at the Superbowl party (other than my wife and my mom).

IMG_0689

Thanks mom and dad for hosting yet another spectacular Superbowl party, and thanks, Ingrid for putting up with our rowdiness! Can't wait for next year! Don't forget to bring the boppers, Frosty.
